After a first half of the series that saw the Mavericks and Clippers trade “runs,” the two teams didn’t separate until the fourth quarter.
So there were 79s all over the place when attacking the final round, and so we could expect a big “money time”. In addition, Tyronn Lue’s squad will gradually run away, especially with the offensive contribution of Norman Powell and the defensive contribution of Nicolas Batum and also Robert Covington.
Ever the mechanic, Kawhi Leonard will register the necessary baskets while creating the right turnovers, inevitably widening the gap. And that’s why Los Angeles controlled the end of the match and won (112-98).
WHAT TO REMEMBER
– Kawhi Leonard is well and truly back. 30 points on 10/18 including 3/4 from distance, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. The stat line is clean and doesn’t exactly reflect the effectiveness of The Klaw, who knows how to create breakdowns when needed or play two-man shots to create turnovers for his teammates. He averaged 29.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists in the last 7 games.
– Dallas free throws. The Mavericks are 28th in field goal percentage, and it’s costing them dearly. With 15/26 tonight, including 8/13 for Luka Doncic and 1/4 for Tim Haradway Jr., the Texans therefore lost ten points at the repair line. The Clippers went 30/31 in practice.
– Visibly tired Mavericks. Note the Clippers’ defensive performance, versatility and effort that hinders opponents when everyone is available. But Jason Kidd’s men, especially Luka Doncic, seem to be on their knees. It’s also the fourth loss in the last five games for Dallas, and even the seventh in the last ten.
✅ Norman Powell. His campaign for the best 6th man title continues. His 19 points were valuable, especially as he scored 11 in the final quarter, punishing two men on the Dallas defense.
Nicolas Batum and Robert Covington. Norman Powell’s defensive back on the Clippers. The Frenchman was invaluable in slowing down Luka Doncic, while Robert Covington did well in assists.
⛔️ Technical failures of Luka Doncic. The Slovenian complains about the referees so much that he uses this technique when he curses his teammates. Despite everything, there have been 10 technical problems since the start of the season. Note that when he turns 16, he will be suspended for one game…
