Tesla wants to clear Model 3 and Model Y inventory with these new discounts
After significantly reducing the prices of the Model 3 and Model Y in China and the United States, Tesla decided to offer a new discount to its American customers, but also to European and therefore French customers. And the reason is quite simple to understand.
Things seem to be going well for Tesla, as the brand has been profitable for some time thanks to the success of the Model 3. Even better, it is set to break its own sales record by delivering one million vehicles. until the end of the year. For this, the company is running its factories at full speed, and in Shanghai it has the capacity to produce 750,000 cars a year. However, if the manufacturer ranks well in the ranking of best-selling models in France, it is not quite the same in China and the United States.
Indeed, if the Model Y was the Middle Kingdom’s 2nd best-selling electric car in November, things are far from good. Sales are down and Elon Musk finds himself with a lot of inventory on hand. So much so that it now has to sell sedans and SUVs to entice customers. In China, the prices have been reduced by several thousand euros.
That’s not all, because the manufacturer has again revived the disappearing sponsorship program to encourage customers to take this step. But nothing helps. And worse, This situation also affects the United Statesso much so that Tesla also lowered the prices of the Model 3 and Model Y.
But this is not enough. So, the brand decided to go further and lower the prices even further Up to $7,500 offor about 7,059 euros as explained Electrek. The offer is valid only for cars purchased this month, i.e. until December 31. The reason is pretty easy to understand and has a strong connection to US politics taxes on electric cars.
Until then, electric cars could not be given an environmental bonus brands that have sold fewer than 200,000 vehicles since the system was introduced. However, Tesla exceeded this number a few months ago. But from January 1, 2023, this restriction will disappear and the brand’s models will be eligible for state aid. Customers are therefore interested in waiting a few more weeks, which obviously doesn’t help Tesla. Because let’s not forget that it wants to reach one million cars delivered by the end of 2022.
So he decides to keep his $7,500 car, which is just the amount of the tax increase that takes the form of a tax credit starting in 2023. But be careful because cars made only on American soil now they deserve this help. Therefore, Tesla, which is manufactured in China, will not be able to benefit from this. The French government is also considering a strategy that would strip the Model 3 of environmental bonuses, with only the Model Y Performance and High Autonomy being assembled in Europe.
And in France?
Also, the end of quarters is always important for a brand and it is important to be successful in it. But then should we expect such discounts in France? This is already the case, because a discount of 3000 euros has been applied on the Tesla website for a few hours. But the situation for Tesla in France is not so critical, as customers are now interested in buying their cars, and the environmental bonus will increase from 6,000 euros to 5,000 euros for most households from January 1 next year.
To encourage them to take this step, the brand has decided to do another giveaway by offering a Supercharger credit of around 10,000 kilometers valid for two years. To do this, you must take delivery of a new Tesla between December 15 and 31.
A few hours ago, we also announced in our column that the brand is offering a big discount on the Model Y in France. A significant reduction, bringing the electric SUV below 47,000 euros is entitled to a maximum bonus of 6,000 euros. Only the cheapest version of the range, the Propulsion, was affected by this small Christmas boost, while the others were content with a €3,000 discount.
