The price of electricity has risen sharply in recent months, with the wholesale price reaching €1,000 per MWh in August last year, compared to €85 in 2021. But even as the cost of energy yo-yos, it’s hard for companies to know which foot to dance on. Therefore Tesla keeps changing its prices, also implemented prices based on peak and off-peak hours last November. The goal? Encourage electric vehicle owners to connect to external peaks and thus reduce the strain on the grid through more affordable prices.
Although the situation has improved somewhat, now charging prices are falling again. The good news is that France is really worried about this new price policy, even if the situation is not similar in other European countries, quite the opposite as seen on the site. Felix Arthur.
Now you have to calculate 0.34 euro per kWh off-peak and 0.38 euro during this period, which extends from 16 to 20 hours. In comparison, kWh is shown at the level of 0.47 euros on average during off-peak hours and €0.56 during peak hours last December. Prices can vary very little from one station to another, up to a few cents. The price of 100 km on the highway then varies between 6-7 euros.
However, these cheaper prices are only valid if you own a Tesla or drive another electric vehicle but pay a monthly subscription of €12.99. So, it will cost you about 19 euros Around €23 to charge your Model Y Propulsion’s 60kWh battery during off-peak hours and when the grid is at its busiest.
The price remains high
Rest assured, if you haven’t already subscribed to a subscription, you’ll be able to take advantage of the low prices too. Indeed, it is now necessary to calculate 0.52 euros per kWh during peak hours, and 0.58 euros between 4 and 8 p.m. For memory, last November you had to pay €0.65 per kWh, this represents a pretty interesting fall. The price of 100 km on the highway is between 9-10 euros.
If you want to charge the 54 kWh battery of your Peugeot e-208, the best-selling model in France last December, you’ll have to pay. 28 euros during off-peak hours and €31 during peak hours. Charging your electric car with a Supercharger shouldn’t cost more than refueling at the moment, unlike some operators like Bélib who have recently increased their prices.
With this small reduction, Tesla’s Supercharger devices are cheaper than the Allego terminals, which were also reduced in price in December. In the latter, for 50 kW terminals, it is necessary to calculate EUR 0.69 per kW, and 0.60 euro in 22 kW sockets during off-peak hours. Then at peak hours 50 kWh terminals need to calculate €0.79 per kWh. Thus, the Dutch company remains one of the most expensive companies in the area.
In comparison, Ionity pays €0.69 for 350 kW and only €0.39 for 50 kW. The award goes to Lidl, while Electra also shows favorable prices close to 0.44 euros on all its terminals up to 300 kW, just 40 cents per kWh for power ranging from 180 to 360 kW.
