Bugatti’s W16 engine takes its final position. The French luxury car manufacturer presented the Bugatti W16 Mistral, the latest evolution of the Chiron, equipped with this block of sixteen W-shaped cylinders. The Bugatti W16 Mistral presented at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Élégance in the United States was a and. According to Molsheim, this is only the roadster version of the Chiron, even if it is a model in its own right.

Visually, the connection to the Chiron is very present, but according to Bugatti, the design of the W16 Mistral was mainly inspired by the 1934 Type 57 Roadster Grand Raid. Thus, there are two aerodynamic hoods integrated into the body and bumper. A black and yellow livery is also available as an homage to the 1930s roadster, which should please fans of Bugatti history.

In profile, we see that the side windows of the Bugatti W16 Mistral fit directly into the continuity of the windshield, so they create a real cover in the passenger compartment. Separate from the engine, the air intakes for the oil cooler are located behind the doors.

At the rear, in addition to the massive diffuser and central exhaust outlet, the W16 Mistral adopts an X-shaped light signature reminiscent of the Bugatti Bolide.

It’s not just a design element, as in Bugatti’s words, these lights “have the function of ventilating the side oil coolers through ducts that connect the space between the X-beams to the side radiators.”

The engine in this Bugatti W16 Mistral is an endangered dinosaur.

As the name of the car suggests, it is a W16 8.0 model with 1600 horsepower. The block is actually similar to that of the 2019 Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, which reached 490,484 km/h.

At the time of writing, Bugatti is not showing the exact performance of the W16 Mistral. We just know that its top speed is potentially over 420 km/h.

Inevitably, the interior of the supercar does not go unnoticed. The design is similar to the Chiron’s cockpit, but Bugatti has used advanced materials such as titanium and aluminum. The French automaker also says it has placed intricately woven leather, particularly on the door panels. The gear lever pays homage to the famous Bugatti roadsters by adopting a wooden touch and an amber insert “with the addition of the famous sculpture of a dancing elephant by Rembrandt Bugatti”. It graced the bonnet of the Bugatti Type 41 Royale.
