With no fewer than three records in three categories, the Tesla Model Y is the safest SUV on the market.
L’European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) is an independent international organization established in 1997, located in Brussels, Belgium. Its function is to conduct crash tests to verify the passive safety capabilities of vehicles.
Now safety is the justice of the peace, and good results are becoming important elements of communication for manufacturers. A safe and secure car is obviously a better marketable car.
His is the safest car
Euro NCAP is giving us new stars today by publishing the results of several electric and electrified cars, including the Tesla Model Y. less than €400 per month and a better quality/price ratio than the competition.
And good news for Tesla, The Model Y earns the maximum five-star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests. He bought it the highest overall score among all cars tested under the new protocoltougher, Euro NCAP, with a score of 92%, ahead of the Lexus NX and Subaru Outback with an overall score of 89%.
For these testsEuro NCAP used the basic version, but these results are also valid for the high-end Long Range and Performance models. It should also be noted that the tested model benefits from the latest manufacturing techniques and the latest safety devices.
- New molding of the rear case, which helps to provide greater resistance to shocks and preserve the integrity of the unit;
- A central airbag that provides additional protection in the event of side impacts, especially when there are two front passengers. This airbag deploys between the front seats and prevents head injuries due to impact between passengers. This is a technology that is becoming increasingly popular in high-end models;
- Multi-collision braking automatically controls the braking system after a collision to prevent a second impact and subsequent crash;
- A collision avoidance driver control system that detects a distracted driver and automatically adapts the sensitivity of the forward collision warning system to make it more responsive.
Best in two categories
The Model Y scored nearly 97% in adult crash protection, the highest score of any vehicle ever tested. In other areas, the Tesla Model Y stands out with a rating of 87% for rear child protection, 82% for protection of pedestrians and other vulnerable road users, and finally 98% for safety systems and driver assistance. This last note is obvious the best of all models were tested againThree points ahead of the Subaru Outback and Nissan Qashqai.
The Model Y tested was equipped with Tesla Vision technology, a camera vision and neural network processing system that is standard on all Tesla vehicles delivered in North America and Europe. The peculiarity of this system is that it does not use radar, but the data transmitted by the vehicle’s cameras.
At the same time, Tesla regularly improves its driver assistance systems while trying to comply with current regulations. Recently, the American company has improved the emergency braking system in certain situations, especially in the scenarios of crossing the lane at the intersection and reversing with sensitive road users in its path.
Thanks to its Autopilot system, the Model Y benefits from arguably the most complete semi-autonomous driving system on the market. Not surprisingly, the SUV thus scored all the points in the “Parking Assist System” category.
Euro NCAP wasn’t the only safety organization to rate the Model Y well, the distinction coming on top of the five-star rating awarded by the Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). In addition to being a bargain right now, the Model Y also appears to be the safest SUV on the market.
