Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received Mariam Mkrtchyan, a member of the Armenian women’s chess team, on Thursday, November 24. Mariam Mkrtchyan became the world and European chess champion in the U-18 category. He was accompanied by his coach Zaven Andriasyan. Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Vahram Dumanyan and Deputy Minister of Education Karen Giloyan also participated in the meeting. The press service of the office of the Prime Minister of Armenia reported on this.
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, said, among other things, in his welcoming speech:
I congratulate you and all of us, including your relatives and friends, on this important victory. We take this very seriously and are very happy for your success. And the main question I asked and we asked ourselves is this: What should we do to develop your talent and bring new and greater victories to Armenia? ?
I must say right away that this is a state policy for us, because I also want to draw attention to the fact that in the transformation strategy of Armenia until 2050, we have set a goal for the representative of the Republic of Armenia to win an individual title. world chess champion. And we are now looking for candidates, because fortunately or unfortunately, the government, ministers, deputy ministers are hardly able to do this, and we need candidates who support them to achieve this goal. I don’t want these goals to seem unrealistic, because Armenia’s chess history has already given its objective results, and it is simply necessary to make the right policy and implement that policy.
Of course, this is not directly related to the topic, but I also want to know that we are currently thinking about creating a talent support fund in Armenia. Rather, we do not think, we have already decided, we think about how to make it more efficient. What will be the purpose of the foundation? ? First of all, the state policy will consist of creating as many opportunities as possible in general education and in other areas of education, including physical education and sports, so that the talent of our children can show itself to the maximum extent. Self-expression is a fundamental issue, so to speak, but in the process of self-expression, of course, there will be special hard-working people, because I believe that talent is not always the right word. The right word is hard work, because first of all, it is the person who reveals the talent in him through his hard work, because I believe that all people have the same talent, another issue is how objective conditions, subjectivity contribute to it. The objective condition is to bring the educational system to the right state, the subjective condition is already related to the environment: coach, environment, etc. We need to find those talents who have difficulty in subjective conditions and consult with them and their families to see with which individual program we can help this diligence to manifest itself more. By the way, I will say that this will apply not only to the field of sports, but also to absolutely all fields, because someone’s talent can be expressed in sports, another’s in art, and the third in science. I believe that this is a very important strategic plan and we must implement this plan.
In fact, I spoke long enough to show how excited we, and I personally, are for your victory. I want to thank you, your family, and your parents for this great victory you brought to the Republic of Armenia.”
Issues related to the future development of chess in Armenia were discussed at the meeting. The interlocutors exchanged views on the possibilities of organizing international chess tournaments in our country, state programs related to the promotion of this field. The Prime Minister noted that the government will further support the development of chess and sports in general. Source: Armenpress.
