The Parisians have to settle for a draw
Paris Saint-Germain has its second goalless match in Champions League Group A, having been held to a 0-0 draw by Real Madrid on Wednesday. It’s the first point for the Parisians since their opening defeat to Chelsea, but only partial certainty for the rest of the group stage…
Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain see each other cross paths again in this Champions League group stage. Last season, the two teams were already fighting in Group B, and the Parisians had two wins after six wins in as many matches.
Paris needs points
The work of the Parisians, who lost to Chelsea (0:1) at home this season, has been difficult since the first day. In top Group A, the Paris club need a positive result at Real Madrid’s turf this Wednesday to avoid falling behind quickly in the quarter-final race.
A 0-0 draw in Madrid could serve as a reminder of this positive result, even if it once again highlighted Paris’s attacking woes. An updated finding despite the return of Lieke Martens to the starting line-up. The numbers help to remember the weight of the absentees, with Marie-Antoinette Katoto having opened three of PSG’s six Champions League goals against Real Madrid since last season, including the 0-2 win in Spain. on the lawn of the same Alfredo Di Stefano stadium.
PSG managed to be dangerous in this half, especially Lieke Martens (4) who quickly alerted Misa Rodrígueze). Supported by Kadidiatou Diani, the Dutch forward saw his recovery deflected into a corner by the Real Madrid keeper. Lieke Martens then saw a cross from the right wing miss the crossbar, while Maria Isabel “Misa” Rodríguez looked to have struck (19).e).
Real with strengths
If Paris made the best start, Real also managed to seize the initiative, especially by Atheea del Castillo. The roving Spanish striker regularly forced the Paris players into error to stop Sarah Bouhaddi’s progress towards goal.
PSG goalkeeper Freja Olofsson (24e), is deflected by Bouhaddi and crosses the left post. Olga Carmona also stumbles in the last Parisian fortress (29e), as well as Caroline Weir, whose shot from 18 meters was caught by Sarah Bouhaddi (31).e). Even if Real fail to open the scoring before going back to the dressing room, the Paris defense is called upon more and more late in the game.
The second half gives both teams new opportunities to take the lead. This is especially true of Kadidiatu Diani, who was found behind the Madrid defense by Ramona Bachmann. Misa Rodríguez then won his duel with the Parisian striker and deflected Diani’s effort into his own net (55).e).
A symbolic return for Kheira Hamraoui
Another French player has an opportunity to score for Real Madrid, with Sandie Toletti able to curl a half-volley into the opponent’s box following a contested ball in the air. Sarah Bouhaddi cleared the way for the Madrid midfielder, who was unable to recover when she was blocked by Elisa De Almeida (58) outside of her goals.e).
The last half hour remains undecided. Esther Gonzalez (68e) or Claudia Zornoza (83e) Kadidiatu failed to find the frame for Real as Diani at PSG (80)e). The end of the game that also allowed Kheira Hamraoui to return to the field in a PSG shirt. Having been sidelined for a month and April, he returned to the Paris squad for the match against Chelsea before coming on in Madrid tonight.
This draw between Real and PSG preserves the positions between the two teams in this Group A classification. The Parisians will probably have to find other resources to return to Madrid or Chelsea in this group stage.
